submitted by Ari Cunningham Stonebridge Church 2129 N. Bristol Lane Nixa, MO 65714 http://www.stonebridgechurch.net College Life Group: Sunday 9:30 am Worship: Sunday 11:00 am This is a nondenominational, very contemporary church with upbeat, rock-style worship music. We believe in the authority of The Bible and the power of prayer. During the worship service, there is a time for anyone who needs prayer to be prayed for. It's very casual, so you can come in jeans if you want. Even the pastor wears jeans most of the time. The college class is brand new, and so far it's been awesome! An Addicition to China 08/30/2011
Submitted by Kay Benson "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age." -Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says this to his disciples after his resurrection. These are his final instructions to his beloved followers. Go. Make disciples. Missions should be a daily part of our lives. Not just certain weeks that we go on a mission trip and designate time to serve the Lord and spread His word. We can do what Jesus is calling us to do every single day...on our campus, in our homes, in our city, our state, our country and even other nations. We can't be afraid to speak truth into the lives of those around us. It could be the only time they will ever have the chance to learn about Jesus. As Christians, we need to have a mission mindset and constantly be thinking about furthering God's kingdom. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” -Matthew 9:37-38 **Here is one on China** When I was a sophomore in high school, God began revealing to me His purpose for my life. I had the opportunity to host a Chinese foreign exchange student for one week. I knew no Chinese, but I jumped at the chance to have an exchange student. Little did I know...this was going to be the beginning of an addiction. An addiction to China. God has shown me time and time again that He is calling me to China as a missionary. I had the opportunity to serve in China with a Christian organization called ELIC (visit elic.org). Through ELIC, I was able to teach English in China for 1 month and also pour God's love into Chinese students. It was one of the most incredible summers of my life. I saw Chinese students open their hearts and minds to hearing about God. We even had a few come to accept the Lord as their Savior that summer. God has given me a heart for the naitons, China specifically, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. **This is just a verse that I love. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for me?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" -Isaiah 6:8 Potters House Bible Studies! 08/28/2011
It's that time of year again! All those Bible studies are starting up for the semester. If you are like me and have NO idea which one you want to do, here is a list of current ones at the PoHo. I personally have never been to a Bible study at Potters before but I have heard they are really REALLY good. The list below is what I stole off their website :) Tuesday 6:00 Not Your Parents’ Marriage downstairs, with Proffitts & Browns Looking at the past, how do you know what to jettison & what to keep as your own? You may discover that some of the practicalities that worked for previous generations are a poor fit in your relationship. Whether you are engaged, married, or somewhere on the way, we believe it’s time for a new thing in “your unique relationship.” 8:00 Strong Women, Soft Hearts upstairs, with Melissa Sometimes life doesn’t go according to our plans. So what do you do when that happens and you realize life isn’t going the way you thought it would? We will explore what it means to keep a soft, alive heart in the midst of a world that doesn’t go according to plan. 9:00 Erasing Hell downstairs, with Samson Love wins... but not the way Rob Bell says. Come here a biblical perspective on the subject of hell by Francis Chan. Wednesday 6:00 New Eve upstairs, with Maggie & Lindze With little guidance throughout my life I’ve discovered how much freedom the world has to offerboth good and bad. This has led me to ask, what drives the choices you make? And where do those choices lead you? The New Eve gives a clear vision for how we, as women, can make wise choices that guide us to live with purposeful direction. – Maggie Being a wife, mother, and a young professional makes for a demanding schedule and has often left me wondering... how do I balance these things well? And am I spending enough time in the right places? The New Eve provides a model that will help us to make decisions that will lead to relief, delight, and fulfillment rather than regret. - Lindze 7:00 Always Be Ready: A Reasonable Approach to Faith co-ed, upstairs, with Hal & Moon Have you ever been asked one of those “big” questions about faith that you just couldn’t answer? Does it make sense to believe God even exists? Why are we here? Do we have a purpose? Is there more to the world/universe than just what we can taste, see, touch, and smell? Is this all there is? We will be gathering on Wednesday nights to discuss these issues in depth, and watch a series of videos that will lead us through these questions in a helpful and structured way. I want to make it fully clear that the hope of these discussions is to support a reasoned, theistic, biblical worldview. This is not Christian propaganda; this is not a time for unfruitful debates. This will be a meeting of believers who want to work out their faith, and learn how to give reasons for the hope that they have. It’ll be a little deeper than your average bible study, so come prepared! You won’t regret strengthening your mind with the truth your heart already knows. Thursday 3:00 TeaTime- a time to de-stress! upstairs, with Berna Focus: Hidden Strength by Ingrid Trobisch We will dialogue about such things as gender identity, the secret of being single, stress/distress & steps to de-stress,& prepping for the next chapter after college! You will love the atmosphere & energy of tea time at Potter’s! 5:30 A Man Worth Waiting For downstairs, with Berna While there’s no such thing as the “perfect man,” the man you choose in life an either make you or break you from being the woman you are intended to be. Take the time to define exactly what qualities you need in a partner. This is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. 7:00 Creative Call co-ed, upstairs, with Katherine Is there a creative ember somewhere deep inside you struggling to ignite? Whether you are an artist who has already identified your gifts or you believe that you have artistic talent that has never been developed, working through this book will help you develop those gifts as God intended. “Creativite” includes everything from closet writer, to the gardening or cooking enthusiastic, to the established artist.
